With Amy’s business I’ve had the opportunity to work in the professional publishing world. Over the last year we’ve self-published her cookbooks and designed new tins for teas. I like to think that I’m somewhat technically competent, but dealing with professionals in those arenas was a very humbling experience. I simply don’t know anything about those worlds. As such, mistakes were made along the way. Nothing too catastrophic happened but with the tins, the way I laid out the artwork was not optimal. Unfortunately, there is such a long lead time between design and production we’re going to live with what I perceive to be a design flaw. Fortunately with the cookbooks, production times are much smaller so it’s easier to recover from a mistake.
Overall, I’m pleased with the efforts and I found the whole process fascinating.
