S.F. Day Trip

Nobody felt like working on chores around the house so we decided to take a day trip to one of my least favorite cities, San Francisco. In many ways, the city didn’t disappoint me. Traffic getting on the Bay Bridge (in both directions) was awful, parking was a pain and there was a smell of sewage throughout most of the districts we were in (Embarcadero, North Beach and Chinatown.) On the plus side though, everybody else seemed to have a really good time and the weather was great. Once we parked, we headed to The Stinking Rose for lunch. There was more garlic than we knew what to do with. It was pretty good overall. From there, we walked to Chinatown and stopped in a pet store where the kids had a blast looking at all of the animals — especially the fish. We also stopped in a store that Amy has bought stuff from before and we vowed to come back if we had time before we left. It was time to see the ocean so we headed to Embarcadero Street. Amy wanted us to see the Ferry Building Marketplace. It was pretty nice but unfortunately we missed the open-air market that was going on out front earlier. We walked around a bit more and then headed back toward the car. The store we vowed to return to was still open and right around the block from the garage so Amy bought a few tea cups (gaiwans) for the tea room. Once we got in the car, we decided to head to the Point Lobos area. I can’t believe I’d never been on the Great Highway before which runs along a large beach that I never knew existed… Pretty neat. It got foggy as we headed south toward Daly City. It was getting time to head back home so we got back on the freeway and waited with everybody else to get onto the Bay Bridge. Everybody (except Amy) was getting hungry so we stopped at Tahoe Joe’s in Vacaville. We had been there once before in Roseville and for reasons we couldn’t remember why were underwhelmed. It wasn’t bad. All of the food seemed to be really high quality and it was pretty tasty. We got home around 9:30 and it was still warmer here than it was all day in the Bay Area. :-) This trip won’t change my opinion of San Francisco, but we did have a good time overall…
